Hey. Firstly, you don’t have to answer this question if you don’t want to. How do your peers at school etc. react when they see your YouTube channel and site etc? [As asked on FormSpring]

// July 7th, 2010 // No Comments » // Blog, Education, General, Internet, Life, Media, School, Tech

Good question!

At first people thought it was kind of “out there”, but I think as time went on, people thought it was just a “thing”. Just like anyone else plays basketball, or is a “bookworm”, so I had a website and have a bunch of viewers.

I was nervous at first too, and I always have trouble with the line “don’t worry what others think”, but I just did it. It’s become more of a topic of conversation now with me. Maybe always in a joking way, but never anything truly bad.

Have I gotten the occasional strange, or awkward comment? Sure, but it bounces off.

Maybe I’m just lucky. But I’m not the ONLY one, you know :)

3 Questions About The Switch To Mac

// July 6th, 2010 // No Comments » // Apple, Blog, Computer, Tech, TechKnowledgey

After I got the following email today about switching to a Mac, I decided to share my answer with all of you. Seeing as to the fact that so many people want some more info on switching to a Mac, and an episode of TechKnowledgey all about it is still hard in the works (but is not going to be done for a while), I thought the least I could do was share this. So here we go.

The email first:

Hi Devir,

I am writing to you to ask you about moving from vista to leopard. In September, I will be purchasing an iMac. I wanted to get around the mac os, so I have a few questions to ask you.

Question 1

How do you delete programs on mac. Like in windows it is start>control panel > programs then uninstall program.

Question 2

How does time machine work, what hard-drive would you recommend.

Question 3

Finally!

How do you add email addresses to the application mail. I am using Yahoo Mail, people say you need to pay for the pops but do you.

Many Thanks!

And my reply with the answers:

1. Deletion is fairly simple. Usually just a drag and drop to the trash. If not there is sometimes an uninstall that comes with the program. Otherwise, there are all sorts of 3rd party apps that make sure to get rid of every little scrap left of an app you want deleted.

2. Time Machine is literally just a switch. Flip it on from the System Preferences, and let it back up your ENTIRE Mac!

3. Adding email addresses is just like Outlook, unless it’s a Gmail account or another popular one, in which case it’s automatic! You just need your password and email address and Mail does the rest. Yahoo, though, does indeed charge money to do that. Switch to Gmail though! WORLDS better!

Hope that helped!

So there you go! And yeah, I do hope that helped!

Some Of The Best Online Quizzes That I Just Recently Found

// May 31st, 2010 // No Comments » // Blog, Comic, Entertainment, Fun, Information, Internet, Life, Media, Photos

How did I just now find out about this place?

It’s called The Oatmeal and it’s just an incredible, genius, and excellently written website. It’s actually all done by ONE (very clever) guy, and the site consists of all these well designed comics, and quizzes about all sorts of things. Unfortunately, words don’t do it justice, nor are they able to explain what makes the site so great. So instead, I’ll show you…

Here are a few of the results from some of the quizzes that I took:

The Teenager Audio Test - Can you hear this sound?

The Zombie Bite Calculator

How many germs live on your cell phone?

And here are some of my favorite articles that I found browsing around for the past few minutes:

What Your Email Address Says About Your Computer Skills

I was CRACKING UP when I read this one: Why I’d Rather Be Punched In The Testicles Than Call Customer Service

I happened to know most of these: 10 Words You Need To Stop Misspelling

Another incredibly funny, and yet so upsettingly true one: Why I Believe Printers Were Sent From Hell

And you can see a whole lot more here.

Like I said, I’m not quite sure how I only just discovered this site, but what I am sure about is that I will be checking back on The Oatmeal pretty frequently now to see what they’re up to over there. I mean, you can just browse around on this sort of a site for hours, and find just a ton of funny, interesting, cool, and clever articles. Go check it out for yourself!

A Quick Tech Setup Picture

// May 30th, 2010 // 2 Comments » // Apple, Blog, Byte Sized, Electronics, Fun, Gadgets, General, Hardware, Life, Photos, Tech, iPad

I recently submitted a quick shot of my whole tech setup (or the set of TechKnowledgey to some) to a new website called TekSetups. While I hope it is featured there, I also figured why not post it here on my blog as well. Then, after I figured that, I did it! Here it is:

Setup Pic

While the shot is certainly okay, unfortunately it doesn’t quite get everything in it. For instance, there are quite a few things under the desk that cannot be seen, as well as a bunch of other things around the area too. The picture doesn’t exactly capture the entire feel of my “place”, but it does a good enough job.

On that note, one of the suggestions on the now open Moderator Module on The Devir Kahan Network YouTube page, was to do a setup tour. To that I say, it will come on New Year’s day, just like it did last year, and hopefully every coming year as well, so look for that on Byte Sized then. Until then though, this was just a little teaser, so to speak, for you all.

Oh, and did you notice the spiffy new logo wallpaper I got going on my iPad? What’s that? Oh, why, thank you!

The Devir Kahan Network Logo

Official Logo Of The Devir Kahan Network

After much work, it’s finally here! I really like the logo a lot! It will now be the official logo and will begin to appear online on my various sites.

And yes, it is a sideways D and K (my initials) that make up that little dude. The only question is – What do we call him?

Big thanks to Anthony over at thetechzonelive.com for turning my concept for this, into an awesome reality!

The Google Pac-Man Game

// May 21st, 2010 // 2 Comments » // Blog, Entertainment, Fun, Google, Internet, Tech

When I first saw that Google had created a Pac-Man game out of their logo for the game’s 30th anniversary I was immediately saddened by the fact that it would only be available for this one day. Well, that’s actually not entirely true. That was probably my second thought. My first was more like “MAN that’s awesome!” followed by my body forcing me to play it for about a half hour. The thought of how the world would be able to play it after today actually came after that.

Addressing that point however, I was super glad when I saw a tweet from @RustyBrick linking to their blog page explaining how one of their engineers created a JavaScript code to embed on any webpage to keep forever. And so naturally, I tried to do that that myself, but after WordPress decided to give me some trouble, I thought it best simply to link to their embed of the game so you can play Google Pac-Man forever-more, here.
