The Keyboard Type

A member of the TechKnowledgey network sent me an email asking if I knew the proper way to type and what I would recommend to him so he could learn. The truth is that I am somewhere in between. I don’t type 100 percent correctly, per say, but I certainly don’t ‘pluck’ like I see so many people do and I tend to average about 40 words-per-minute (WPM).

To be honest, I myself used to ‘pluck’ – I have learned to get better strictly from experience and that is the best way I can recommend someone else to learn as well. Just keep on typing an the more you do it, the better you will become.

There are some great online resources as well that can give you some fun ways to practice typing. For instance, you can try http://typeracer.com/ and race against other people in real time, to see who can finish first with the highest WPM.

In my opinion though, things like Mavis Beacon are just garbage. They never seemed to help me and I just can’t recommend them with any sense of authenticity. Basically, just keep on typing. As with most anything, the more you do it, the better you will become.
